Secure FTP Guidelines for vsftp.ucop.edu

Methodology

Send or retrieve files from the University of California Office of the President production group using TCP/IP FTP (File Transfer Protocol) as follows:

Execute a secure copy (SCP) command to vsftp.ucop.edu. The format for a "put" file is: scp yourfile.ext ftpusrn@vsftp.ucop.edu:put/sys/remotefile.ext where: yourfile.ext is your local file name, n = campus number (1 for BK, 2 for SF, etc.), sys is the system (refer to specifications for each file), remotefile.ext is the UCOP filename (again refer to specifications).

For example, to put a file named Deductions on the UCOP Secure server under the /car (carrier) system directory and name it DED560.JUN04: scp Deductions ftpusrn@vsftp.ucop.edu:put/car/DED560.JUN04

The format for a "get" file is: scp ftpusrn@vsftp.ucop.edu:get/remotefile.ext yourfile.ext where the symbolics are the same as above.
Enter your assigned password (contact your local campus File Transfer Contact for password information).

The naming of 'your filename' is left to each location's discretion. However, the UCOP filenames will be in our "normal" MVS format, which means the filenames will be in all CAPS (the vsftp.ucop.edu server is case-sensitive), and there will be a period between each node. The 'UCOP filename' will be specified in the specifications for each campus transmission. The system directory as well as the system name is always lower case.

An electronic mail transmittal note is no longer required. If you are experiencing transmittal problems, E-mail PCSSC.
